Body Styles and Trim Levels

1929

In 1929, Ford produced several body styles and trim levels. On offer were:

  • Coupe (standard and business)
  • Roadster (standard and deluxe)
  • Phaeton (standard and deluxe)
  • Delivery van
  • Station Wagon

Engine and Drivetrain

The 1929 Model A had a 200 ci "l-block" in-line four-cylinder engine. The engine generated 40 horsepower at 2200 RPM and 128 ft-lbs of torque at 1000 RPM. The compression ratio was 4.22 to 1, or 5.1 to one for cars with the optional "police head".

Model As were rear-wheel drive. The transmission was a three-speed manual, non-sychronized, sliding gear unit with a dry multi-disc clutch. The ignition was Kettering-type battery-and-coil system and the 6v positive-ground electrical system relied on a generator rather than an alternator. Engine coolant (water) was circulated both by a water pump and syphoning.

Braking

The Model A had 4-wheel mechanical disk brakes.

Safety

In 1929, Ford switched from using standard plate glass to using safety glass in vehicle windows.

Capacities

Fuel capacity was 10 gallons.

Price and Production Figures

Depending on trim and body type, the 1929 Ford Model A had a retail price between $455 and $795. Ford produced more than 1.5 million 1929 Model As, the majority of which were coupes and roadsters.
